LEH: Like other parts of country, 6th National Voters Day 2016 was also observed today at Leh Distt under the banner Inclusive and ualitative Participation with great enthusiasm. The main function at Leh was presided over by Chief Executive Councilor, LAHDC, Leh Dr. Sonam Dawa Lonpo as chief guest and other prominent present on the occasion were Executive Councilors Tsering Wangdus, Mumtaz Hussain and Tsering Sandup. The progarmme was participated by Chief Executive Officer, Leh Development Authority Zaida Bano, BLOs, new voters and students. Likewise, National Voters Day was also observed at all the sub divisions and Tehsils namely Nubra, Nyoma, Khaltsi, Durbuk, Kahru, Likir and Sumoor, Saspol respectively.
Highlighting the values of democracy deeply rooted in Indias political system and the voting rights given to its every citizens irrespective of cast, creed or color, CEC, Dr. Dawa congratulated all the participants especially new voters who are now ready to play vital role in franchising their choice of candidates in forthcoming elections. Handing over EPIC to the newly enrolled people and honoring Tsewang Namgial BLO Sankar for recording maximum addition and deletion during Summery Revision of Electoral Rolls and Sajad Hussain BLO Skanyos for 100% EPIC coverage in their respective areas, Dr. Dawa stressed upon all the BLOs to give their best so that every eligible voters of Leh district could be enrolled. Talking about the marginalized section of voters, CEC Dr. Dawa said that there is a need to motivate and mobilize such voters including disabled voters.
Later, Dr. Dawa administered Voters Day Pledge to all the participants in Ladakhi language.
Earlier, ADC, Leh R. K Badyal and ACR, Leh Tashi Dolma speaking about the importance of National Voters Day said that the purpose of celebrating the voters day is to woo more new voters and to inspire them to exercise their franchise, when the occasion comes and this year special dive will be initiated to cover marginalized voters of the society including disabled, NRIs etc.
To spread more awareness about Voters Day, a quiz competition was also held between BLOs, students above 18 years and students below 10 years which was won by student below 10 years.
