SRINAGAR: The government has constituted a 10-member committee for ensuring timely construction of the girls’ hostels under the Rashtriya Madhymik Shikhsha Abiyan (RMSA), a government of India sponsored scheme, in Jammu and Kashmir.
Headed by administrative secretary, school education department, the panel comprsises of divisional commissioner Jammu and Kashmir, administrative secretaries of public works (R&B) department, rual development department, directors of school education Kashmir and Jammu, chief engineers of R&B (Jammu and Kashmir) and state project director RMSA (J&K).
The committee shall be serviced by the Directorate of Rashtriya Madhymik Shikhsha Abiyan (RMSA), J&K and shall meet at least once every quarter, a government order said here, according to GNS.
RMSA, launched in March, 2009 by the Government of India through the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), provides for enhance access to secondary education and to improve its quality. The scheme envisages achieving an enrolment rate of 75 percent from 52.26 percent in 2005-06 at secondary stage within five years of implementation by providing a secondary school within a reasonable distance of 5 kms of any habitation. Its other objectives include improving quality of education removing socio-economic, disability and gender barriers and providing universal access to secondary level education by 2017, marking the end of 12th Five Year Plan. Under RMSA Middle schools are upgraded into High schools and High schools are further upgraded into Higher Secondary Schools. (GNS)
