KUPWARA: Contractors in frontier district Kupwara Saturday alleged that some contractors in league with some officials have been looting state exchequer by using sub-standard material in their allotted works at different places of the district.
Eyewitnesses told CNS that scores of contractors under the banner of Contractors Welfare Association Lolab staged a protest alleging that authorities have failed to take action certain contractors who have been using substandard materials in their allotted works.
Different government works have been going on at different places of the district including Sogam, Kalaroos and Tangachek. There is a deep rooted nexus between some contractors and officials. We have ample proof to prove that substandard materials are being used in the construction work of Khumriya and Lashtiya bridges, Sogam hospital, Model School building Khumriyal and water supply plant Tangachek. Certain contractors are doing this to fill their coffers and they do it after greasing the palms of the officials, the protesters said. They presented a memorandum to Deputy Commissioner Kupwara Kumar Rajeev Ranjan who assured them a committee will be constituted to investigate the matter. (CNS)
