SRINAGAR: Calling for a complete shutdown on January 26, Hurriyat (M) Saturdayappealed people to observe the Republic Day of India as a Black Day, an Hurriyat (M) statement said that during the past seven decades most of the political, economic, and religious rights of the people of Jammu Kashmir had been trampled upon by a country that claims to be the biggest democracy in the world. It was using its military might and tactics of suppression and coercion to make the lives of Kashmiris nightmarish, the statement said.
Maintaining that the people of Kashmir were not against celebration of the national or Republic Day of any country but the way in which, during the past seven decades, India had muzzled the voice of Kashmiris by crushing their democratic and human rights undemocratically, it becomes incumbent upon them to observe a complete shutdown on January 26 to appraise the international community about the atrocities being committed by India in Kashmir.
Meanwhile, Hurriyat (M) Chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq urged the international community to come forward and use its influence for resolving the long-pending Kashmir issue. He said till this issue was not resolved as per the wishes and aspirations of people of Jammu Kashmir, a lasting peace in South Asia would remain a distant dream.
Terming Kashmir a nuclear flashpoint that could lead to unthinkable destruction of the entire region, the Mirwaiz said an unresolved Kashmir issue could anytime push the two nuclear neighbours towards a nuclear showdown.
Stressing upon understanding the seriousness of this issue Mirwaiz said besides the international community it was also the responsibility of the leadership of India and Pakistan to involve the people of Kashmir in a meaningful dialogue process to find an agreeable and durable solution of this issue so that the dangers hovering over the region could be ended.
He said the just struggle of the people of Kashmir could not be suppressed by using military might and committing atrocities like the killings of innocent civilians, use of excessive force on the common masses or ban on peaceful political, religious and social activities of the resistance leadership. He urged the international community to take serious note of these human rights violations and use its influence on New Delhi to stop committing atrocities on Kashmiris.
Meanwhile, a delegation of the Hurriyat (M) comprising of senior APHC leaders Mukhtar Ahmad Waza, Jaffar Kashmiri, Gulzar Ahmad, Showkat Ahmad and Ghulam Ahmad Mir visited the Nayan Batapora, Pulwama residence of martyred youth Parvez Ahmad Guru and expressed sympathy with his bereaved family.
Addressing the condolence meeting at the residence of Guru, who was martyred by forces, Waza while condemning the killing of an innocent civilian who was protesting against the atrocities committed by the Indian forces, said the sacrifices of Kashmiris would bear fruit and urged the people of Kashmir to safeguard the sacrifices of the people and ensure that the mission of the martyrs is taken to the logical conclusion.
