SRINAGAR: Police arrested two drug peddlers in Baramulla and a bootlegger in Sopore and recovered prescription drugs and illicit liquor from their possession, beside Sumbal police also seized illicit liquor and charas last evening.
Acting on specific information, a police party of Police Station Baramulla, apprehended two drug peddlers identified as Altaf Hussain son of Mohammad Yousuf resident of Sangri Colony Baramulla and Bilal Ahmad Gogry son of Mohammad Jamal resident of Sayeed Karim Old Town Baramulla near Tehsil Chowk Baramulla and PHE Office Baramulla respectively. Police recovered 14 bottles of Codine Rexicoff from Altaf Hussain and 10 bottles of Codine and 70 Tablets of Spasmoproxyvon from the possession of Bilal Ahmad. A case has been registered in this regard.
On another tip off, Sopore police during Naka checking at Kupwara Crossing apprehended a bootlegger identified as Nazir Ahmad Tedwa son of Raj Mohammad resident of Check Narkoot, Kalaroos and recovered 15 bottles of liquor who was carrying it in a Tata Sumo bearing registration number JK09-4465 from Srinagar to Kupwara. Police has registered a case and investigation is going on.
On another tip off, Sumbal police raided a shop belonging to Javaid Ahmad Mir son of Sadiq Mir resident of Naidkhi Sumbal. On checking of the shop police recovered 27 bottle of illicit liquor and 400 grams of Charas. Accused Javaid Ahmad managed to flee from the spot. Sumbal police registered a case FIR number 11/2016 under section 48 Excise Act, 8/20 NDPS Act in this regard and has launched the manhunt to nab the accused.
