SRINAGAR: The 27th Road Safety week concluded here today with celebration of its valedictory function by Motor Vehicles Department held at Institute of Hotel Management.
On the occasion, Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir, Dr. Asgar Hassan Samoon was the chief guest while as Deputy Commissioner Srinagar, Dr. Farooq Ahmad Lone, RTO, Kashmir and SSP Traffic besides various transporters, members of civil society and media persons were present in the function.
Speaking at the function, Dr Samoon said that the need of the hour is to educate the people about the importance of following traffic rules for their own safety and others welfare as well. He said that ensuring smooth movement of traffic is everyones responsibility and it could be achieved only when all stakeholders will play their role consciously to avoid frequent road accidents.
Other speakers urged a partnership between transporters, traffic department and general public for better traffic management besides ensuring safe roads for both commuters and pedestrians. They also stressed for launching mass awareness campaigns to aware the people about safe road use.
The theme of this years Road Safety Week was, Road Safety-Time for Action.
