SRINAGAR: A meeting of Task Force for development of Horticulture in the State was held under the chairmanship of Vice Chancellor SKUAST-K Shalimar here today.
The Chairman reviewed the progress made by the site selection committee for establishment of Hi-Density apple orchards in the state. Several issues on the import of elite planting material from source nurseries in Europe came under discussion which include the selection of the sites, post entry quarantine facilities, permission from Government of India for import etc. Besides, a technical committee comprising experts from department of Horticulture, Scientists from SKUAST-K Shalimar and CITH Rangreth Srinagar will short list and specify the quantity of the varieties for import before the scheduled date of next meeting to be held on 16th of October 2015.
The Vice Chancellor SKUAST-K also chaired another meeting, regarding the Apple Crop Insurance Policy wherein seven insurance companies participated who submitted their proposed term sheets for implementation of Apple Crop Insurance Scheme in the state. The proposals will be examined by the Committee Members before its submission to the Administrative Department for accord of necessary approval.
