JAMMU: 27th Police Public Mela would be held in Jammu on February 21st this year. This was decided in a meeting of senior police officers held at Police Headquarters (PHQ) here today. The meeting also discussed various arrangements for the said Mela.
The meeting was chaired by Director General of Police (DGP), Mr. K. Rajendra Kumar and attended by senior officers including Additional Directors General of Police, Mr. SP Vaid, Mr. Navin Aggarwal, Mr. SM Sahai and Mr. Dilbag Singh.
In the meeting, Mr. Rajendra said that Police Public Mela is a big event organized by the Jammu and Kashmir Police Wives Welfare Association (JKPWWA) each year and added that the event has gained much popularity among people both at Srinagar and Jammu. People from various shades of life visit these Melas and get the opportunity to buy different items from all regions of the State at one place. These Melas also help bring police and public together, he added.
Rajendra informed that the Mela which will be held in Jammu on February 21, 2016 (Sunday) at Police Sports Stadium Gulshan Ground. The Mela will be inaugurated at 10 a.m. and will conclude at 4 p.m. He disclosed that Raffle Draw will take place at the venue at 4.30 p.m. and prizes would be given away among the winners on the spot on production of original tickets.
DGP further said that the amount earned out of such Melas is utilized for welfare of police martyrs families under various welfare schemes adopted by Police including free education to their wards.
During the meeting, discussion was also held with regard to various arrangements required to be made for the Mela. For this purpose various committees headed by senior officers were also constituted. It was decided that the stalls of various products of different police establishments from across the State would be prepared for participation in the Mela. Provision of adequate space to such stalls in the Mela for sale of their products was also examined in the meeting.
Rajendra disclosed that raffle draw tickets would be made available through all police establishments at prominent places across the state for sale. Special counters for sale of raffle draw tickets would also be established around the venue on the day.
Meanwhile, Dy. Commandant IRP 10th Bn. Mr. Atul Sharma was nominated as Nodal Officer for the event, in the meeting.
The DGP stressed on the officers to coordinate at all levels to make the event a success. He said that committees constituted should start preparations at their end and officers should remain responsible for different tasks assigned to them. He asked the officers heading different arrangement committees to hold meetings and discuss preparations for smooth conduct of the event.
Earlier, AIG (Welfare) PHQ, Dr. Haseeb Mughal through a power presentation briefed the meeting about arrangements and conduct of the event.

Police Hospital, Dr. Wasiq Rasool, Commandants of Armed/IRP Bns. Sr.ADO (PHQ, BA Shah and other police officers.
