SRINAGAR: To disseminate information on traffic rules, a function was held today as a part of ‘Road Safety Week’ in Srinagar.
Road Safety Week 2016 is being observed in the state from January 10th to 16th. The theme for this year’s Road Safety Week is set as ‘Road Safety-Time for Action’.
The programme was organized by J&K Motor Vehicles Department and Traffic Police Srinagar in which representatives of Transport organizations participated.
Regional Transport Officer (RTO) Farooq Rather, SSP Traffic Police Srinagar Maqsood-ul-Zamaan, Director Tourism Mahmood Ahmad Shah, flagged off a colourful motor car rally from Zabarwan Park on the banks of Dal Lake to Civil Secretariat. The aim of the rally was to spread awareness about following traffic rules like putting on seat belts, avoiding overtaking, stopping use of mobile phones while driving, heeding to red signal and shunning unnecessary honking.
On the occasion, City Traffic Police unveiled measures to take action against violators, implementing and enforcing the traffic rules strictly. RTO impressed upon participants to avoid driving without license and ensure proper documents while driving besides carry forward the message of the programme to the larger society.
Later certificates were distributed among the motor car rally participants. The organizers said it is the collective responsibility of the law enforcing agencies and all sections of the society to help in decongesting traffic and maintain the smooth flow of traffic in making roads safer for all.
