SRINAGAR: Terming the resolution of Kashmir issue as a necessity for better Indo-Pak relations, Hurriyat (M) Chairman, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq Monday said Kashmiris have always been desirous of cordial ties between the two countries but cordiality may not last long unless the long pending and the most contentious issue of Kashmir is not addressed and resolved keeping in view the aspirations of the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
According to a statement issued to KNS, addressing a delegation of workers and delegates from Pattan area of north Kashmir at Hurriyat (M) headquarters Rajbagh, Srinagar, the Mirwaiz said the role of Kashmiris in the dialogue process between New Delhi and Islamabad cannot be overlooked.
Kashmiris were the most important stake holders to the issue and any solution that is not dignified, and does not keep the sacrifices as well as wishes and aspirations of the people in view would not be acceptable to the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
He said, it is the duty of the leadership of both the countries to devise a mechanism to include the people of Kashmir in order to make any dialogue process on Kashmir credible and result oriented as the political future of Kashmiris was connected with the resolution of Kashmir issue.
He hoped that in spite of difficulties the political leadership of India and Pakistan would take bold steps to move forward towards resolving Kashmir. He said that if positive steps were taken in this direction it would automatically reduce the level of trust deficit between the two countries and would pave the way for the resolution of all pending issues which would result in peace and prosperity of the entire South Asia.
Welcoming the Hurriyat delegates, the Mirwaiz said the amalgam had initiated a people-to-people contact programme at the grass root level and the positive response to the programme proves the dedication of the people towards the ongoing resistance movement and also in making the foundations of Hurriyat (M) strong.
Terming unity and brotherhood among Kashmiri Muslims as a necessity for the success of the ongoing resistance movement, he said Kashmir had always been an example of communal harmony and tolerance for the rest of the world and urged everyone to play his role with responsibility for creating an atmosphere of unity and brotherhood for defeating the nefarious designs of the elements bent upon creating sectarian strife and communal tensions.
