SRINAGAR: In a bid to flush out militants a massive crackdown was launched on Saturday in Madar hamlet of North Kashmirs Bandipora district.
Police sources told media that the combing operation was launched after gunshots were heard around the area on Friday evening. Search operation was conducted to ensure militant free area, said a police official.
Reports said that Government Forces after cordoning off Madar and Nasu villages directed people to assemble at one place. Our identity cards were thoroughly checked and houses searched despite the fact no militants are present in the area, the villagers said adding that it has become a routine for the Army to launch search operations in any village of the district on the pretext of flushing out militants.
Locals alleged that the check post created by police have become a nuisance for the general public who are being humiliated in the name of frisking and checking. They said that it is 90s like situation here when search operations had become the order of the day. (CNS)
