Srinagar: Social media networking sites particularly Facebook and Whatsapp are flooded with the photographs and information related with late Chief Minister Mufti Muhammad Sayeed who passed away on Thursday morning at All Indian Institute of Medical Science New Delhi.
The netizens in Kashmir have been continuously reacting to the death of Sayeed and majority of them while expressing deep shock and sorrow termed late Chief Minister as a towering political personality who never went after money and property.
Amitabh Mattoo who served as Advisor to the Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir, late Mufti Muhammad Sayeed claims that the nation will realize far too late that they missed the opportunity of properly using Mufti sahib as the tallest leader of Muslims in the country and abroad; the state will never ever recover from his passing away. He adds that Mufti Muhammad Sayeed refused to change most bureaucrats that had earlier been part of the National Conference regime saying that only a bad workman quarrels with his tools and he always refused to be drawn into petty issues.
Mattoo added that Mufti sahib was a much-misunderstood man, because he neither sought publicity nor gave candid interviews. Despite his punishing schedule, he was planning his memoirs and he had even fleshed out a framework. But that was not to be.
A social user Basheer Ahmed writes that one needs to have guts and brains to understand the personality and contributions of Mufti Muhammad Sayeed. He was a great visionary politician while only few understand this fact.
It is extremely sad news. He took Jammu and Kashmir to new heights as a scientist and as a Chief Minister and even after that. He was a great visionary and has inspired me to a great extent. I had got a chance to work closely with him, writes a former bureaucrat. The netizens were all praise for Mufti for curtailing and curbing the movement and powers of dreaded counter insurgent force Special Operation Group in 2002. Who can forget the terror unleashed by Task Force men in Kashmir. They used to kidnap demanding ransom, indulging in torture and killings. Nobody was safe and frisking and arrests were the order of the day, but Mufti Sahab emerged as messiah for the people and confined this dreaded Force to police stations. I sincerely salute this leader who was pro people and sympathizer of common Kashmiri, wrote Javid Ahmed.
Another social media user has posted that Mufti was having a soft corner for separatist leaders and that is why they condole his demise. Whatever these separatist leaders will utter in public may not be their final opinion about this great leader in their hearts. The fact is that majority of the separatist leaders wished to see Mufti as Chief Minister.
Some critics accused Mufti of bringing RSS and AFSPA in Kashmir Valley. It was he (Mufti) who paved the way for RSS into Kashmir. During his tenure as Home Minister he brought AFSPA here and even helped infamous Jagmohan to assume the charge of Governor of Jammu and Kashmir. In response to this post, another user writes that important decisions are not taken by any individual but these are always collective decisions. At least Mufti Sahab did not indulge in corruption and amassed wealth and created property for himself. Peep into the bank accounts and coffers of other political leaders and you will get my point and will start respecting the great leader Mufti Muhammad Sayeed.
Scores of users came up with photograph showing the funeral procession of Lashkar-e-Toiba commander Abu Qasim and the funeral procession of Mufti Muhammad Sayeed. See the difference. Sea of people present in the funeral procession of Abu Qasim and nobody is there for Mufti, posted some youth. However, the supporters of Mufti confronted them stating that thousands of mourners bid adieu to Mufti Sahab. Why you are posting fake pictures. This picture showing 12 odd people might have taken with an intention to mislead the people. The reality is that thousands mourned the death of our beloved Chief Minister, Muahammad Abbas a facebook user responded to these pictures.
