Ganderbal: There is a simmering discontent among the residents of several areas of Ganderbal district particularly the Kangan and Gund tehsil over the unscheduled power-cuts by the Power Development Department (PDD).
The residents of areas like Kangan, Ganiwan, Gund, Kullan and Haknar told the Kashmir Observer that the frequent power cuts have put them to immense inconvenience.
The electricity is playing hide and seek for the past few months , particularly in the morning and evening hours, the complainants said.
The residents of these areas said their children, appearing in the ongoing Board examinations, were the worst sufferers.
Our children are unable to study properly in absence of power, said Bashir Ahmad, a resident of Gund.
Its unfortunate that the authorities resort to unscheduled power cuts in the morning and evening hours, which is the ideal time to study. he said.
Pertinently JK Board of school education Kashmir has recently announced date sheet for examinations of secondary and higher secondary classes.
Many students complained that the power-cuts were badly affecting their studies.
How can we study in absence of power? Instead of resorting to power cuts, the PDD should ensure uninterrupted power supply these days keeping in view the examination session, they rued. The students demanded that the PDD should ensure uninterrupted power supply.
We cant understand why power cuts take place only when examinations happen to be at peak. The government should look into the issue and ensure round-the-clock power supply, said Bisma Nabi, a student of 10th class.
She said in absence of power, students are unable to get up early for studies.
Another student Jahangeer Lone told Kashmir Observer that instead of imposing power cuts during morning and evening hours, the PDD should do it during the daytime so that the student fraternity doesnt suffer. These power cuts can ruin career of hundreds of students, he added.
The residents of Kangan and Gund said the power situation worsened since November last year. We were getting power as per the schedule, but now we dont know what the schedule is, they said.
The residents of these areas have appealed the higher authorities to look into the matter.
Meanwhile sources in the PDD told Kashmir Observer that basically many resort of overloading by using gadgets like heaters and blowers in winter season, which subsequently affects the total capacity.
