Srinagar – Markets in Srinagar witnessed heavy rush with thousands of people flooding markets for Eid shopping.
Queues could be sighted everywhere, as locals struggled to enter shops to purchase their favourite items.
All roads led to shopping destinations, eateries and ubiquitous vendors outside local markets, where people could be seen bargaining with shopkeepers to get the best price.
Special markets set up for the sacrificial animals, shepherds were seen camping with their flock at various places in the heart of the city looking for customers. Thousands of sheep and goat have been bought by the people for the ritual of sacrifice during the festival.
According to the mutton dealers, over one lakh sacrificial animals mostly sheep and goat would be sold at various places in Valley this Eid.
More than one lakh sheep and goats to the tune of Rs 90 crores would be sold on the eve of Eid-ul-Azha, said President Kashmir Valley Butchers Association, Khazir Ahmad Rigo.
Traffic department has restricted movement of commercial vehicles along Maulana Azad and Residency roads to ensure smooth movement of people through the city centre Lal Chowk.
However, the prime marketing locations witnessed heavy traffic jams causing inconvenience to the people. The most exasperated lot was the daily commuters who got stuck in the traffic jams. Short roads widths and an increasing vehicle numbers were the two prime causes behind the frequent road jams.
Despite heavy rush, shoppers were complaining about steep increase in the price of essential commodities.
