Accuses Govt Of Communalizing Jammu, Ladakh
Srinagar – Several resistance leaders, including Syed Ali Shah Geelani, have expressed grave concern over the rapidly deteriorating situation in the remote Zanskar area of Kargil district forcing the authorities to clamp indefinite curfew to prevent escalation of communal clashes.
In a statement, Hurriyat Conference (G) chairman, Syed Ali Shah Geelani, accused the local administration of partisan handling of the situation in which members of minority Muslim community were being harassed and which had created a sense of insecurity and fear among them.
If the criminally partisan role of the authorities did not stop, it could have a negative impact on the situation all over the state for whose consequences the government would be squarely responsible, Geelani warned.
Accusing the government of communalizing Jammu and Ladakh, Geelani said Kashmir had for ages been a symbol of communal amity. But, for some time past, sustained efforts are being made to fan communal passions, first in Jammu and now in Ladakh, as a design. The government has not only failed to check the disturbing trend but on occasions it seems to be patronizing and blessing the nefarious activities, he lamented.
The Hurriyat (G) chief asked the government to ensure security among the minority community in the region and tame the communal forces responsible for harassing the Muslims.
Meanwhile, in a joint statement, Javed Ahmad Mir of Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (H), Shabbir Ahmad Dar, chairman of Muslim Conference, and Muhammad Yousuf Naqqash, chairman of Islamic Political Party, has condemned the Budhist attacks on Muslim houses in Zanskar. They flayed the harassment of Muslims of Zanskar and Burma saying Muslims were parts of the same entity no matter where they belonged to.
Demanding stern action against the Budhist officials accused of playing a partisan role, the leaders said no excesses against the Muslims in any region, Jammu or Ladakh, would be tolerated. They urged the government to prevent exodus of Muslims from Zanskar. (KNS)
