
Srinagar- J&K’s top para athlete, Sheetal Devi, clinched a gold medal in the Compound Women category at the Khelo India Para Games 2025, while Rakesh Kumar secured a bronze in the Compound Men category. The archery events were held at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, New Delhi, where both athletes delivered stellar performances.
Adding to J&K’s success, Anita Kumari, hailing from the border district of Rajouri, won a bronze medal in the 10M Air Pistol Para Shooting event.
It is pertinent to mention that Khelo India has been phenomenal in providing a platform for athletes from border areas and marginal backgrounds to compete at the national level. In recent years, J&K athletes have consistently shined in national championships, further highlighting the region’s growing sporting excellence.
Minister for Youth Services and Sports, Satish Sharma, congratulated the athletes on their outstanding achievements, calling it a proud moment for Jammu & Kashmir. He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to enhancing sports infrastructure, coaching facilities, and training programs to help athletes compete and win at both national and international platforms.
Sarmad Hafeez, IAS, Secretary, Department of Youth Services and Sports, also extended his heartfelt congratulations to the athletes and their coaches.
Secretary J&K Sports Council, Nuzhat Gul, congratulated the athletes on their outstanding performance, commending their hard work and dedication in bringing laurels to Jammu & Kashmir.
