SRINAGAR: Putting lives at grave risk, a delivery was performed in mobile phone light outside a labour room in District Hospital Handwara where there is no electricity from past five days. Luckily, both mother and infant are doing well.
The callousness sparked protest against hospital authorities while attendants alleged that hospital officials do not use GenSet for unknown reasons.
Hospital sources said that there is no electricity in the hospital from past five days. When we impressed upon a doctor to use Genset, he replied that there is no fuel available, said an attendant.
Reports said that a woman Mehfooza Jan wife of Zahoor Ahmed from Taharatpora Vilgam was admitted in the hospital on Thursday. She developed labour pain during night. Since there was no electricity in labour room, she had to be moved out.
“When my wife was shifted to the delivery room, there was no electricity. Nurses collected some mobile phones outside labour room so that they could help the woman deliver the baby. The delivery was normal, but after sometime she developed pain and we had to rush her to LD hospital Srinagar, Zahoor Ahmed said.
The protesters alleged that the hospital is in shambles and no efforts are being made to improve the patient care system.
Despite repeated attempts SDH authorities declined to comment on the issue. (CNS)
