SRINAGAR: Nearly 59,000 applicants today appeared in the job tests conducted by Service Selection Board of the state for over thousand non gazette posts as part of fast track recruitment.
SSB Secretary Shabir Ahmad Raina said among 90,000 aspirants who were to appear in the tests for different jobs, 58, 548 candidates wrote their exams across the state in 236 centers for 1001 jobs. Raina said that the attendance of the aspirants stood at 65. 40 percent.
Barring an untoward incident in Jammu region at two examination centers where at Lothra College of Education and Sacred College of Education were affected after few some aspirants tore off their question and answer sheets, the exams went of smoothly, Raina told reporters here.
The Board will see as to what decision it will take about these two centers, he said.
Around 80,000 candidates are likely to appear in tomorrows exams in the state, he said. He said that 1238 applicants asked for changing the exam centers which were changed since yesterday for the convenience of the candidates.
The secretary said that despite some errors in the database of the candidates in their online applications, the board issued admit cards to the students as late as 11 pm on Thursday.
Over the lack of heating arrangements in exams centers in bone chilling cold, the secretary said that the board had requested the educational institutions where exam centers were located to provide such arrangements to the aspirants.
But due to the lack of infrastructure in the colleges and schools after last years floods, the administration of the education institutions said that they could not provide it to the students. However, for those exam centers where it was possible for the concerned administration, heating arrangements were made available, he said.
He said that in the last six months the board is in the path of making improvements for the convenience of the candidates. He said that the board was contemplating to make the facility of credit and debit cards to applicants to submit their fee as the Bank clerks do make some errors in deposing the fee of the candidates. He said that message alerts will be send to applicants about the status of their exams and notifications. (KNS)
