Srinagar: The issue of striking down of reservation quota in promotion by High Court of Jammu and Kashmir sparked a protest as well as complete shutdown in twin districts of Ladakh Division-Kargil and Leh on Tuesday.
The call for shutdown was given by All Ladakh Regional Action Committee for Protection of Reservation Body. Eyewitnesses told CNS that all the shops, business establishments, government offices remained shut both in Leh and Kargil districts while transport remained off the roads.
In both the district a large number of people including government employees took to roads and burnt tyres as a mark of protest. The protesters vowed to fight against the Government on reservation issue. The protesters said that recent HC order has aroused a huge resentment among the Government employees especially of Leh and Kargil district which has around 90% of population under the reserved category.
We strongly condemn the decision of High Court. The insensitive attitude of the State Government has led to adverse repercussion. People both in Leh and Kargil will jointly fight tooth and nail on the reservation issue, president EJAC Ladakh division Mukhtar Ahmed Khan said.
