Srinagar: The ropeway on the foothills of Koh-i-Maran up to the shrine of Makhdoom Sahib (RA) in old city, was thrown open for devotees on Tuesday.
The ropeway installed with much fanfare by the previous government was closed in May this year after officials found defective components in the system.
The Project Manager Showkat Ahmed said that all the defective components were replaced with new ones. He said that a team of expert engineers worked day in and day out to made the ropeway operational.
The 550-metre ropeway has been built by the Jammu and Kashmir Cable Car Corporation (JKCCC) through Kolkata-based Ropeway and Resorts Pvt Ltd. The four cabins, two on each side, run on the double ropeway which ferries more than 200 passengers per hour. The Corporation has earned a revenue of Rs one lakh since its restoration and from past few days all but 100 pilgrims and tourists availed the service, the Project Manager said. CNS
