Poonch – A former militant and his family, including a seven-month-old infant, who were illegally trying to cross LoC from Pakistan-administered Kashmir to avail governments rehabilitation policy, were Tuesday allowed to return by army after being told that they should follow proper procedure.
30-year old Mohammad Javaid, who had joined LeT outfit 12 years back, his wife Tabassum alias Sophiya, his three childrenfive-year-old Zoya Javaid, Mohmmad Shakeeb, 2, and seven-month-old Abdul Waseemcrossed LoC and entered into Digwar forward belt in Poonch district, officials said Tuesday.
Troops guarding the borderline detected the infiltration soon after the family entered Indian territory and offered to surrender before the Army, they said, adding that Army authorities asked them to return to PaK.
They were crossing illegally to J&K to avail the rehabilitation policy for Kashmir youths who had crossed the LoC for arms training.
Officials said army authorities told them that this is not the right way to cross the LoC and so it cannot be allowed. They were told to adopt a proper procedure for crossing and return to Jammu and Kashmir laid down under the policy.
Javaid, who belongs to Surankote belt of Poonch, crossed over to PaK for arms training in 2000. He married Sailkote women Tabassum in PaK and was living in Muhajir Colony in PaK.
On July 23 this year, three militants owing allegiance to the Lashker-e-Toiba and Hizbul Mujahideen were among six persons pushed back by the army soon after their infiltration along the LoC in Poonch.(Agencies
