Orders Demolition Of Illegal Structures, Suspends 2 Officials

Srinagar – Commissioner Srinagar Municipal Corporation Dr G.N Qasba along with other officials today toured various downtown areas to take a stock of sanitation and special arrangements for the upcoming Eid-ul-Azha.
According to the SMC Media Relations Officer, Dr Qasba visited various areas including Hazratbal Shrine, Lal Bazaar, Kanitaar Saderbal, Hawal, Jenaab Sahab Soura, Achan, Eidgah Ali Masjid, Jamia Masjid and Khanyaar.
During his visit Dr Qasba directed the concerned officers to launch a special sanitation drive on Friday Hazratbal Shrine, Jamia Masjid and other places where Eid prayers are to be held.
He directed the Chief Sanitation Officer to depute a special squad to various religious places especially Dargah Hazratbal to make special arrangements for Eid-ul-Zuha prayers in respect of sanitation, anti-ncroachment drives ,proper lighting and continuous market checking.
While inspecting sanitation conditions at Lal Bazaar and Saderbal area, Dr Qasba directed the concerned ward officer to install four more smart bins in these areas so as to achieve improvement in sanitation. The residents of these areas hailed SMC for showing concern towards improvement of sanitation in these areas.
During his visit to Jenab Saab Soura, Dr Qasba passed on instructions to the Executive Engineer Mechanical Itrat Naseem to get the defunct lights repaired and at other prayer offering places where ever it was required before Eid.
While travelling towards Eidgah some illegal constructions were observed on Alijan road by the Commissioner. Due to the pending enquiry Ward Officer namely Mohmad Yousuf has been attached on spot and the two building inspectors Bashir Ahmed Surera and Bashir Ahmed Khan placed under suspension.
Dr Qasba directed the Chief Enforcement Officer to go for the demolition of the identified illegal structures forthwith.
Later, on the directions of the Commissioner, the SMCs enforcement wing acted promptly and razed down all the five constructions which were coming up illegally in the green zone belt.
Meanwhile Health Officer SMC Javaid Ahmed along with the team of Food Saftey Officers conducted market checking in various areas of downtown and issued strict instructions to the shopkeepers especially mutton and poultry dealers including the confectionary to keep all eatables properly covered and stick to the quality of food to be delivered.
If anyone found selling stale and misbranded food and slaughtering outside their shops would be taken to the task, health officer SMC Javaid Ahmed while issuing instructions to the shopkeepers, said.
