SRINAGAR: A number of majalis were held across Srinagar on Thursday to mark the Arbaeen (Chehlum) of martyrs of Karbala.
Processions were taken out following majalis where zakireen recited classical marsya and Ulema delivered sermons highlighting the significance of Arbaeen and the relevance of message of Imam Hussain (AS) today.
At Sajjadabad Chattabal, Maulana Muhammad Abbas dwelt in detail about the spirit behind the uprising of Imam Hussain and his small band of followers which he said infuses vigour among Muslims even after the passage of 1400 years.
Later a Zuljinah procession was taken out from the Astana Babul Hawaij where copy of holy Quran written by Imam Musa Kazim is preserved.
At Zadibal, Srinagar large number of mourners from Srinagar and adjacent areas attended the Majlis and listened to Moulvi Imran Raza Ansari, chief of Shia Association and Minister of Sports and IT.
Molvi Imran threw light on the life and teachings of Hazrat Imam Hussain and the incident of Karbala.
The Majlis started with recitation of holy Quran, followed by marsiya by renowned Zakirs.
Later procession of zuljinah was taken out from Baba Mazar, which went through various streets and culminated at Imam Bara Zadibal.
Similar function was held at Bemina Srinagar where Agha Syed Mohammad Fazlulalh delivered a sermon and led a Zuljinah procession.
In nearby Budgam a big mourning procession was led by Agha Syed Hassan al Safvi from Mirgund. The procession culminated at Imambargah Budgam.
