Srinagar – One army personnel was killed and two others injured here Monday evening after an army ambush party tried to stop a vehicle, which they (army) suspected as militants in central Kashmir’s district Budgam, police said.
Army had laid an ambush in the area and when a Sumo entered the ambush party tried to stop them but the Sumo driver refused to stop after they witness people in the sumo with weapons, this made them to fire at them and later they discovered they were also from the Army, police sources said.
This was a miss-communication between the two parties that resulted this incident,
It was basically an exchange of fire between 35 RR and other party about which we dont have any perfect information. So according to our knowledge, one army personnel has been killed and two have been injured, senior superintendent of police, Budgam, Utam Chand told Kashmir Observer.
He said that the incident had occurred at around 8:30pm.
When asked where police suspecting the other party as militants, we cannot give you the full details as its too late this time, he said.
Army had laid a vehicle checking naka or ambush at Chattergam chowk, in Chadoora area of Budgam following information about movement of militants through the area, police sources said.
An army team travelling in a civil vehicle did not stop at the check point, giving rise to suspicion among the naka party, who opened fire, they said. A senior police official said a team has been sent to the spot to investigate the incident.
When contacted, colonel 35 RR said I am busy this time and cannot comment call me after five minutes, despite repeated attempts from this newspaper later, the army officer didnt respond.
It may be recalled here that the incident has occurred after militants entered a local Hotel and fired upon the army convoy. The army convoy which was passing on the highway was halted for some time during the firing incident, in which two hotel employees were killed. All the attempts to reach defence PRO office, srinagar couldnt metalize at the time of writing this report.
