Srinagar – A young boy who had fallen into the Wullar during a group clash in a Bandipur village was still missing in the lake 18 hours after the incident today.
Fifteen-year-old Nigar Ahmad Dar had fallen into the water when villagers from Laharwalpora and Baniyari fought a pitched battle in boats over sand-extracting privileges in the lake on Sunday.
According reports, the boy from Laharwalpora had received a blow from a cane on his head and plunged into the lake injured.
Villagers alleged that they had tried to pull him out but their opponents prevented them from doing so.
Naval boats too had joined the rescue operation, but there was no trace of the boy.
The body had not been recovered even by late Monday evening when reports last came in.(Observer News Service)
