Srinagar – The death toll in last weeks shootout in Lasjan went up to two on Tuesday as an injured 18-year-old youth succumbed at the SMHS Hospital after a four-day battle for life.
Like the first victim, Anees Ahmad Wani too was an employee of the Silver Star Hotel where the sudden firing incident took place last Friday.
Authorities have yet to determine whether or not the incident, which had left one hotel employee dead on the spot and another two injured, was a militant attack on a passing army convoy or a case of personal animosity.
Heart-rending scenes were witnessed in Inder Bugh Divar in Lolab when the teenagers body was brought home from Srinagar.
Women came out of their homes beating chests, and a large number of people joined the boys funeral procession.
Meanwhile, a 16-year-old boy sustained a bullet injury in Sopore outskirts.
It was not clear who had fired the shots and why.
The boy was admitted to a local hospital where his condition was described as stable.
The northern township remained shut down today over the death of two militants in an encounter with the forces on Sunday. (Observer News Service)
