PDP Govt doing injustice with Kashmir electorate
Srinagar: The Kashmir Valley has again pitched for allotting two premier educational institutes and asked the PDP-led Government to press for the issue with the centre.
People said that PDP has mandate from the Valley and the Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed has himself repeatedly said that electorate in Kashmir has chosen him for equitable development of the state.
The demand for setting up of Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Indian Institute of Management (IIM) and Indian Institute of Mass Communication (IIMC) has gained impetus after the Centre allotted Rs 2000 crore for building the two premier institutes in Jammu.
Pertinently, the demand of these two institutes for Kashmir gained momentum after New Delhi allotted AIIMS for Jammu even though only one such premier health institute was sanctioned for Kashmir region.
Why should any elected government deprive us of education when our counterparts have got two institutes in Jammu, asked Talib Hussain, a college student.
He said that the PDP which is claiming to represent Kashmir province should take up the peoples demand with the Centre.
Discrimination should be ended by the PDP-BJP government which has mandate from both the regions. It is the responsibility of the PDP that represents valley to get these two institutes for us, Hussain said.
Politicians from the region also support demand of IIT and IIM for Kashmir.
CPI (M) leader and legislator form Kulgam, M Y Tarigami said that the Kashmir valley is being deprived of two premier institutes which is simply injustice.
Depriving students of Kashmir of IIM and IIT is simply injustice with us. We were happy when Jammu got IIT, IIM and AIIMS, which was announced for Kashmir only. Should Kashmir always launch agitations to demand development of their region, Tarigami told KNS.
He said that the state government should raise the issue with the centre. It is the responsibility of PDP-led government to get IIM and IIT for Kashmir, he said.
Senior leader and former legislator from Tangmarg Ghulam Hassan Mir pointed out that PDP-led government has failed to represent Kashmir region from which it has got its mandate.
While PDP has failed to represent Kashmir, its alliance partner BJP has succeeded in representing Jammu. When AIIMS was allotted for Kashmir, Jammu agitated for it and got the healthcare institute there, and PDP government supported their demand, Mir told KNS.
But when Kashmir raised the demand for IIT and IIM, PDP ignored it. PDP has betrayed the people who elected it to power, Mir said, adding that Kashmir should get IIT and IIM because only such education can change the future of the youth here.
Opposition Congress said that it supports development of all the regions of the state.
When Jammu demanded AIIMS, we supported them. Similarly, we support the demand of IT and IIM for Kashmir. Any discrepancy in development of the regions of the state should be addressed by the PDP-led government as it is the ruling partys prime responsibility. PDP must focus on Kashmir as people here have elected the party to form the government, Congress President G A Mir told KNS.
He said that Valley needs such institutions because of its lack of proper connectivity with the outside world. Having IIT and IIM in Kashmir will meet the knowledge requirements of youth here, he said. (KNS)
