Hurriyat (M) leader in Pulwama
Pulwama: Terming Kashmir land of Sufi saints and religious scholars, Hurriyat (M) Chairman, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq Friday urged the youth of Kashmir to follow the teachings of Islam and uphold the traditions of great Sufis of Kashmir
Addressing a large gathering of people at Pulwama in south Kashmir, where he visited on the invitation of towns Jamia Masjid, Mirwaiz said Kashmir has strong Islamic traditions of brotherhood, tolerance and justice which have been taught by great saints like Amir-e-Kabir Mir Syed Ali Hamadai, Sheikh-ul-Alam Noorudin Wali and Sultan-ul-Arifeen Sheikh Hamza Makhdoom.
As the Mirwaiz reached Pulwama, he was welcomed by pro-Azadi and pro-Islam slogans by thousands of people and was taken from Jamia Mosque in a procession to Pulwama Chowk where he addressed a massive gathering of people.
Commenting on the Political situation in Kashmir, Hurriyat (M) Chairman said by using force and terror, the political, religious, social and human rights of the people of Kashmir had been muzzled by Government of India and its stooges in Jammu Kashmir and the resistance leadership was even stopped from offering obligatory prayers at the Masjids.
He said during this year alone, the government had imposed curfew more than 40 times in old city and a dozen times, people had been stopped even from offering Friday congregational prayers at Jamia Masjid in Srinagar.
The Mirwaiz said the resistance leadership is being detained and placed under house arrest and curbs their political, religious and social activities.
Terming Kashmir issue a political and a human issue, which had to be resolved politically for bringing peace and stability in the region, he said, Kashmir issue is a long standing issue and people had been offering sacrifices for the past seven decades.
Mirwaiz said that there is already unity of thought among the resistance leadership and every resistance leader and resistance group wants to take Kashmir issue to its logical conclusion by carrying forward the resistance movement.
He said the rulers in Jammu Kashmir before assuming power had said everyone would be given a level playing field an opportunity to express their views and that this government believed in Goli Sey Nahi, Baat Banigey Boli Sey but the crackdown on the resistance leadership and the youth specially in Shaher-e-Khas had proved their claims to be a hoax.
He castigated the former chief minister who had said that imposing curfew day after day is like marshal law but adopted the same policy during his tenure. He said it was the policy of pro-India parties that when they are out of power they give statements favouring people and when in power, go back to tactics to try and break the will of Kashmiri people. In reality, all pro-India parties are birds of the same feather, the Mirwaiz said.
Amid slogans like Jis Kashmir Ko Khoon Sey Seencha, woh Kashmir Hama Hai, the Hurriyat (M) Chairman said despite the nefarious designs of the Government and its stooges in Kashmir, the justice seeking people of Kashmir would continue their struggle.
The rulers can do whatever they want, place curbs, impose curfews and put us in detentions but we will not be cowed down, he said and appealed youth to come forward and shoulder the responsibility of the resistance movement .
