SRINAGAR: The Department of Education formally started the ground work for the establishment of herbal gardens in government schools across the state.
On Tuesday Directorate of School Education conducted a one-day workshop for Principals of DIETs, Higher Secondary schools and the designated curators of the proposed herbal gardens.
Last week Minister for Education Naeem Akhter had announced that herbal gardens would be established in the schools across the state. In the first phase, all the DIETS and 12 Higher Secondary Schools have been chosen on pilot basis.
The workshop was inaugurated by Dr M.A Sidiqui, Associate Director Extension Education, SKUAST-Kashmir who was chief guest on the occasion.
During the workshop, Manzoor Javaid, Nodal officer Herbal Gardens Project gave a Power Point Presentation on various aspects concerning establishment of herbal gardens in schools and DIETs. Speaking on the occasion Javaid said herbal gardens are going to play a vital role in the economy of the state and the schools shall be remembered as pioneers in this endeavour.
Dr M.A Sidiqui during his presentation highlighted various technical aspects related to the theme. He also pointed out various possible hurdles and suggested ways to overcome the bottlenecks.
The function was attended by members of the newly created Innovation Cell of the Directorate including besides 40 Education Officers of Kashmir Division. The participants of the workshop expressed their satisfaction on the utility and productive outcome of the workshop.
