Srinagar: Voicing serious concern over messy condition of SMHS hospital, Doctors Association Kashmir (DAK) today said that it is because of mismanagement.
Lamenting re-employed Principal GMC for completely mishandling the affairs of SMHS hospital, President DAK Dr Nisar-ul-Hassan in a statement said that it is because of his ineptness that SMHS hospital is in complete shambles.
The premier hospital is in a sorry state of affairs because of incompetent and inefficient head.
Raising alarm over lack of emergency department in SMHS hospital Dr Nisar said that due to its absence patient care is the worst causality.
Accident and emergency department in SMHS hospital is confined to papers and sign boards only while as on ground it is being run by students and Assistant Surgeons who lack proper training to deal with critically ill patients.
Emergency department is the backbone of a tertiary care hospital and has to have separate staff of senior consultants, junior consultants and paramedics specially trained and qualified in handling critically sick patients.
It is ironical that emergency patients in SMHS hospital are dealt by postgraduate students of other departments who are not trained for critical care and cannot handle complex cases.
The emergency patients need the services of highly qualified doctors who have to provide treatment to critically sick patients as it is the time that decides the life and death of an emergency patient.
Keeping students for managing critically sick patients is unethical as it is responsible for poor patient outcomes.
The emergency department of SMHS hospital is a mere eye wash and due to the absence of a full- fledged emergency department and qualified doctors, emergency patients in SMHS are risking their lives.
