Non-metered areas to witness 8 hours power cut soon
SRINAGAR: Stating that the gap between demand and supply compels Power Development Department (PDD) to go for curtailments and unscheduled cuts, Chief Engineer PDD, Bashir Ahmed Khan Thursday said that non-metered areas will witness power cuts of 8 hours while there will be a power cut of 3 hours in metered areas.
The reasons which are compelling us to go for distress curtailment in the Valley are because we could not import power as per our requirement. There is problem with the sources supplying energy to the State as they are unable to meet our requirements due to certain technical reasons, Khan told Srinagar based news agency CNS adding that two lakh forty thousand units of energy is being consumed per day and yet the people dont reveal their actual requirements.
Blaming common people for the power mess in Kashmir, Bashir Ahmed Khan said that 100 per cent metering will be done in the coming months and electric supply will be snapped instantly from the areas where people resist and oppose the move.
There is no need to raise hue and cry over unscheduled power cuts. People are blaming PDD for their fault. Let people reveal their actual requirements, PDD will supply uninterrupted power to them, Khan said.
Khan blamed people for the curtailments and unscheduled power cuts. Let people come forward, make us aware about their actual requirements and see how things will look up. It is easy to blame the Department for everything but at least people should realize that they use more electricity than required, he said.
He said that it is unfortunate that people dont know anything about the mechanism of electricity. They dont tolerate a few hours of power cut.
He said there are countless illegal connections in Kashmir Valley and the people are not registering these connections. I appeal to people to register their illegal connections voluntarily or face the music, he said, adding few ministers, government offices and bureaucrats are the defaulter of the PDD.
General public is the biggest defaulter. It is general public and not the politicians or bureaucrats who are the defaulters. Security bunkers using electricity are being charged as well, he said.
