Kulgam: A family from South Kashmirs Kulgam district Thursday accused police of shielding an erring driver who according to them has been spared by police despite involving in a traffic mishap leading to injures to 9 people including three brothers and their elderly mother.
The Bhat family from Laroo Kulgam said that on November 4, a speedy Sentro car (JK18-5294) driven by one Iqbal Sheikh possibly under the influence of alcohol had hit 9 people.
Seven people including five members of a single family were seriously injured who are still in a hospital. The irony is that despite lodging a complaint against the driver, police did not bother to lodge an FIR against the guilty driver, the family alleged. Leave the registration of case aside, even police didnt bother to call the accused to the police station for questioning.
The family said that the accused was not touched due to his affiliation with a political party. When contacted a police official said that an FIR has been lodged against the accused driver, a claim refuted by the complainant family.
