Srinagar: The Srinagar-Leh highway, connecting Ladakh region with the Kashmir valley, was re-opened for Kargil-bound light motar vehicles on Tuesday evening.
According to Traffic police about 450 LMVs stranded at Sonamarg since past two days were allowed to move towards Kargil.
This became possible only after all the vehicles stranded on the Zojila Pass on way to Srinagar were cleared, they said.
The 434-km-long highway was closed for traffic around noon today due to slippery conditions.
Meanwhile, heavy motor vehicles, including trucks loaded with essentials and carrying passengers heading towards Ladakh region continue to be stranded at Sonamarg.
Officials said that heavy loaded trucks will be allowed to move towards Kargil on Wednesday if weather and road conditions are feasible.
