Srinagar- Counter Intelligence Kashmir (CIK) and the Special Investigation Agency (SIA) Kashmir of Jammu and Kashmir Police jointly conducted searches at Central Jail, Srinagar in a terror-linked case. Several digital devices, including mobile phones, were recovered during the operation.
The searches were conducted under a search warrant issued by the Court of Special Judge, Designated under NIA Act, Srinagar, in case FIR No. 06/2023 under sections 153-A, 505, 121, and 120-B IPC read with sections 13 and 39 UA(P) Act.
The case pertains to a conspiracy involving proscribed terrorist organizations operating within Jammu and Kashmir and across the Line of Control (LoC, in collaboration with Pakistani agencies.
These organizations are allegedly working with their Over Ground Workers (OGWs), supporters, facilitators, and sympathizers in Kashmir to create new terror modules by misusing social media platforms. The goal is to radicalize and recruit youths for unlawful activities, including joining terrorist organizations and furthering their activities.
During the investigation of the case, it was revealed that mobile phones and other digital devices were being used by under-trial terrorists, OGWs, and supporters of various proscribed terrorist organizations inside Central Jail, Srinagar. These devices were being used for communication with active terrorists, receiving and transmitting directions from handlers based across the border to further the terrorists’ activities.
The suspects/inmates were found to be in continuous contact with handlers or members of terrorist organizations across the border, passing on instructions to active terrorists operating in the Kashmir valley. As part of the investigation, searches were conducted in various blocks and barracks of Central Jail Srinagar. Incriminating materials, including SIM cards, mobile phones, and other digital devices, were recovered and seized for further investigation.
The investigating agency is also looking into the security breach at Central Jail Srinagar, specifically how the digital communication devices were smuggled inside the premises. Facilitators and collaborators involved in this act will also be investigated.
The operation aims to uncover crucial evidence, curb illicit activities, prevent the misuse of communication devices within security zones, including jails, and dismantle the terror ecosystem in Jammu and Kashmir. Legal action will be taken against those involved, as per the law of the land.
