SRINAGAR: A severe electricity crisis has gripped in Bemina quarter of Srinagar and its adjourning areas, compelling people to take to the streets to protest against the power cuts.
Every day the area witnessed 5 hour long power cut. On Monday many people from the Bemina area complained to KNS that power supply remains off for hours daily. Though our area is metered, the department goes for unscheduled and extended power cuts for hours.
In past five days, our area faced several unscheduled power cuts. If power is not provided to us as per the schedule we will be left with no option other to protest on the streets, said Shabir Ahmad of Bemina.
Another consumer Habibulah of M.I.G colony said that it is shocking that instead of ensuring regular power supply during the peak hours, the Power Development Department is resorting to forced cuts. Every day and night we find ourselves in complete darkness.
The electricity is playing hide and seek for the past few days, he added. We are witnessing frequent power cuts despite our locality being fully metered. Another consumer, Mushtaq Ahmad from housing colony Bemina, which is a metered area, said and added that we fail to understand why the authorities are not sticking to any schedule. KNS
