Srinagar: Doctors Association Kashmir (DAK) today said that trauma hospital at Pattan Baramulla, which happens to be the only one of its kind in North Kashmir is yet to be operational.
President DAK Dr Nisar ul Hassan in a statement said that the lone trauma hospital in north Kashmir has been hanging in balance for more than a decade now and has missed many deadlines.
The trauma cum sub district hospital spread over 40 kanals of land at Babteng Pattan which is being constructed at an estimated cost of Rs 23.56 crores is in limbo.
The incessant delay in operation of trauma center is holding up trauma care facilities for lakhs of people in North Kashmir.
The construction of Pattan trauma hospital was started way back in 2002 and thirteen year have gone, hospital is still not complete which speaks non-seriousness of concerned authorities towards crucial life saving assets.
Pattan hospital which was aimed at saving lives of trauma patients who are dying because of inordinate delay in its completion.
It is lack of trauma care in peripheries that is responsible for jeopardizing the lives of critically ill patients.
Majority of patients with salvageable injuries die because they are unable to reach Srinagar hospitals within golden time which is vital for survival of trauma patients.
Time makes the difference between life and death of trauma patients and many lives could be saved by timely intervention.
The staff of existing space constrained sub district hospital Pattan who have been waiting for shifting to new hospital for a long time now have no other choice but to refer each and every patient to Srinagar hospitals because of lack of facilities.
It seems value of life has been lost in healthcare policy and planning.
