Nobel Laureate and child rights activistKailash Sathyathi today expressed his regret over the politicalleaders in India not helping to ease the feeling of intoleranceamong the people, while religious leaders did little to bring downthe social menace.
Mr Sathyathi strongly advocated that India should ‘resolve’ the issue (ofintolerance) with a sense of compassion and find a long termsolution. To help this, first parents should guide their wardsagainst such attitude and remove religious feelings and secondly thepolitical class act in a responsible way.
The religious leaders can also contribute in a big way by bringingin youth into their fold and advocate amity among all sections ofthe society. Such meetings can be held in a temple, masque, a churchor Gurudwara, he added.
Talking to newspersons here, Mr Sathyathi said, political apathy and even less action fromreligious leaders should be noting points during the debate onintolerance raging in the country, while a majority of parents toohave to correct themselves.
Answering questions, the Noble Laureate said, ”Children never createdthe trouble in the world like insurgency or hatred. The time hascome we learn from them as they know we have corrupted their minds.Many parents have told their wards about religious sentiments andcreated separate identities in their mind. Instead of teaching, letus learn from these fresh minds.”
Mr Sathyathi said it was time the political class worktowards better understanding among people and more importantly thereligious leaders take a lead in ensuring social amity.
”Hatred results due to absence of love and intolerance whenthere is no tolerance among the people. It is time parents telltheir children about religious and caste differences anddiscriminations in the society, be it religious or genderdiscrimination. If they are taught to get rid of this, the youngminds will act,” he added.
”We must let our children crate a better world for us as theyare the future of the country. It is time we learn from them as theyknow no hatred,” he said.
Stating that he had worked in over 100 countries to fight for thecause of children, Mr Sathyathi said, India need to resolve the issue on compassionate grounds.MORE UNI RS MSP KVV AK 2005
