Srinagar:Taking no chances and to ensure peaceful Modi visit to Jammu and Kashmir, authorities have decided to close the 286 kilometre Jammu-Srinagar highway for traffic on November 7, the day when Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to arrive in Summer Capital Srinagar.
We dont want to take any chance and it has been decided that not a single vehicle will be allowed to ply on Srinagar-Jammu highway on November 7, a top police official told CNS adding that the step has been taken to in view of Modis visit to Baghlihar in Ramban district.
Modi will first arrive in Srinagar on November 7 to address a public rally in the Sher-e-Kashmir Stadium Srinagar and later on he will inaugurate the 450 MW second phase of the Baglihar power project and the Shaheed Amarnath Bhagat Skill Development Institute in Baglihar located in Ramban district.
This will be for the first time when people will be barred from plying their vehicles on Srinagar-Jammu highway in wake of Prime Ministers arrival in the state. The police official added that no free movement of people will be allowed on roads on November 7 and those intending to attend public rally will be permitted after thorough checking and frisking. He added that in wake of Geelani sponsored Million March there will be severe restrictions in and around city-centre Lal Chowk and TRC ground will be sealed during wee hours on November 7 this month.
