SRINAGAR: With three more days left for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s scheduled visit to Srinagar, authorities have thrown a security blanket around the city of more than a million people.

The PM is scheduled to address a rally at Sher-e-Kashmir Cricket Stadium here which has already been taken over by the SPG commandoes.
Police has intensified patrolling and frisking passersby and checking motorists on key city junctions.
The government forces have also started night patrolling in the city and they also carry searches of vehicles during night hours.
Reports of security being beefed up by forces have also been received from other parts of the Valley.
The government has already taken various preventive measures for the smooth conduct of the rally by detaining pro-freedom leaders and activists as they have called for a parallel rally on November 7.
A top police official said that police will ensure all precautionary measures for smooth rally of Prime Minister. As part of the security measures, the state police and central paramilitary personnel have launched multiple area domination operations, including random frisking of civilian vehicles. The security set-up will be further strengthened on a daily basis ahead of the Prime Ministers visit, the official said.
The sources said the frisking of private vehicles, setting up of checkpoints and patrolling would be intensified in the coming days but it would be increased gradually to avoid creating a scare.
Meanwhile according to KNS police has also put known stone pelters on its radar and if the need arises they would also be taken into preventive custody, the report said.
