SRINAGAR: At least 16 policemen were awarded out of turn promotions while 17 SPOs were elevated as Constables for taking part in Khandeypora Kulgam operation that resulted in the death of high profile Lashkar commander Abu Qasim last week.
Police sources said that Director General of Police, K Rajendra Kumar visited Kulgam on Monday granted these promotions to the policemen to boost their moral for taking part in anti-militancy operations.
The police chief according to sources also gave monetary award to the officers and men of Kulgam police who initiated and participated in encounter in which Abu Qasim was killed.
Pertinently, Abu Qasim who allegedly revived militancy in Kashmir was was the prized-scalp for the police having a bounty of Rs 20 lakh on his head.
