Srinagar- A delegation of Jammu and Kashmir RTI Movement -RTIM led by Dr Raja Muzaffar Bhat met with Chief Engineer Irrigation and Flood Control Department Kashmir B J Sharma on Tuesday and apprised him about the illegal Riverbed Mining taking place in different streams and Nallahs if Kashmir valley.
The delegation in addition to Dr Raja Muzaffar consisted of senior activists of RTI Movement namely Shabir Ahmad Bhat and Raashid Ashraf. The delegation gave a written representation to the Chief Engineer for making sure Illegal Riverbed Mining in Sukhnag Nallah in Beerwah and other streams of Kashmir was curbed.
Dr Raja Muzaffar during the meeting gave a detailed presentation to Chief Engineer B J Sharma on illegal Riverbed Mining taking place on Pulwama and Budgam and how it was impacting agriculture, wetland ecosystems, springs and groundwater.
Chief Engineer IFC Kashmir assured the delegation that he would personally visit the affected sites soon and also said IFC would ensure orders of National Green Tribunal and Supreme Court are enforced on the ground in letter and spirit
