Srinagar – In a revelation that puts a big question mark on the School Education Departments motive to open schools in every nook and corner of the state, it has come to fore that many primary schools are being set up where there is no need for such schools, only to adjust blue eyed candidates as Rehber-e-Taleem teachers.
In one such instance, the primary school NaiBastiQaimoh in Kulgam district, which was established in year 2010 under the SarvaShikshaAbhiyan (SSA), allegedly by faking records of students, was closed within two months of its opening.
Sources told KNS that around ten students shown in the school records as enrolled were brought deceitfully to fill up the admission forms after which two para-teachers were appointed under the Rehber-e-Taleem scheme. Two months later the school was closed and one of the teachers Mohammad IqbalZargar of ThokerporaQaimoh was deployed to operate computer at the Zonal Education Office Qaimoh while another female teacher was attached at Government Middle School Thokerpora, the sources added.
To top it up, despite closure of the school, the building owner, Mohammad Ismail Bhat, in whose house the school had been set up on rent basis is getting the rent from education department continuously, the source s claimed. Highly placed sources in the department told KNS that the practice of setting up schools to adjust blue eyed candidates has been going on for long on largesclae across the valley, particularly in the district of Kulgam. They said hefty sums of money are paid by the candidates, which area allegedly shared among the officials of the department.
Meanwhile, talking to KNS, Deputy Chief Education Officer Kulgam, Bashir Ahmad said that cognizance has been taken by the authorities in the case and that he has submitted a report to the then Chief Education Officer (CEO) Kulgam.
When contacted, the former CEO, said that the report of the defunct school was submitted and that he was not aware about present status of the report.
When asked if it was during his term as CEO Kulgam that the school was established and closed, he said There was bias in the report which demanded establishment of the school and facts can be known from the report who were responsible.
Attempts to contact current CEO Kulgam were futile as there was no response from his side. (KNS)
