JAMMU: A couple was murdered in the presence of their two minor children by some masked men at village Dhanod near Lakhanpur during wee hours of Thursday.
According to the Indian Express Inderjeet Singh, 67, and Bholi Devi, 32 his third wife were killed with sharp edged weapons by masked men. Both had married only a few months back.
An ex-employee of MES, the deceased had a lot of property in neighbouring Punjab. He had two children each from first two wives. While a daughter borne out of first marriage was married in Delhi, the son had been settled in Sujanpur, police said.
The two children present at the time of murder were from Inderjeets second wife. Police identified them as Roop, 9, and Indu, 7.
As per information collected by police during initial investigations, three-four masked men knocked at the doors of Inderjeet after midnight. As he responded, they attacked him with sharp edged weapons killing him on the spot.
They entered the house and attacked Bholi Devi too. The children, however, escaped attention of the assailants as they hid themselves in an adjoining room. No one heard the screams of the victims as the house was built at a deserted place away from the village.
The police came to know about the murders only on Thursday morning when children came to the village and narrated the entire episode. The village Sarpanch Ramesh Singh informed the police who took the bodies to hospital for postmortem.
A case has been registered into the matter.
