Srinagar: A group of respectable citizens Thursday said that the appointment of Justices Bashir Ahmad Kirmani as member of the Accountability Commission has left the State Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission (SCDRC) headless and it is now three weeks and still the government has not appointed anybody as head of the SCDRC.
The delegation said that this has caused a huge problem to the consumers waiting for disposal of their cases.
The Consumer Protection Act provides for summary proceeding in the consumer courts. This aspect of the Act has often been emphasized by the Supreme Court as well as the National Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission. It is obvious that by leaving the SCDRC headless, the state government is defeating the very purpose of the Consumer Protection Act. This assumes graver proportions as a large number of people affected by the last years devastating floods have cases pending before the state consumer commission. The consumer wants the government to fill the vacancy without any further delay, they said. CNS
