SRINAGAR: The 3-day workshop on Safer Access Framework (SAF) organized by Indian Red Cross Society, J&K State Branch concluded at Institute of Hotel Management, Raj Bagh, Srinagar.
General Secretary, IRCS, J&K, Ms. Roma Wani said that the workshop was first of its kind in the State which was organized with the support of IRCS-NHQS and ICRC with an aim to prepare volunteers to respond to context specific challenges and priorities to reduce and mitigate risks at time of exigencies. She also said that Red Cross through its volunteers tries to increase acceptance, security and safer access to areas affected by conflicts and disasters. She said such workshops go a long way in building the capacity of the volunteers and taking the Movement to new heights.
Elaborating on services rendered by Red Cross in the State during the last many catastrophe, she stressed the need for the safety and security of the volunteers during relief operations.
Speaking on the concluding ceremony, Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir, Dr. Asgar H. Samoon said that Safer Access of Red Cross volunteers during various natural and man- made disasters has always to be a priority. He stressed the need of community involvement in every humanitarian action and acceptance of the organization and the individual in the community. He also said that Red Cross should work to develop the community based Disaster Management System so that more thrust is given to the disaster preparedness and mitigation.
During the workshop, the participants discussed the eight elements of Safer Access Framework including context and risk assessment, legal base of the Safer Access, acceptance of the organization and individual identification, internal and external communication and coordination and operational security risk management.
