Urges for creation of durable, sustainable assets
ANANTNAG: District Development Commissioner Anantnag, Muneer-ul-Islam urged upon all the concerned officers and agencies to work for creation of durable and sustainable assets under MGNREGA convergence plan keeping in view the guaranteed employment generation as the main motive.
District Development Commissioner was chairing an officers meeting convened to review the progress of MGNREGA convergence plan here today. Officers from R&B, Horticulture, Agriculture, Planning, Education, PHE, I&FC, Development and other departments were present on the occasion.
DDC deliberated upon various aspects of MGNREGA convergence plan and urged upon the line departments to ensure engagement of laborers registered with the department. He informed that 16 asset creation activities have been approved under this scheme during current fiscal. He urged for inter-departmental co-ordination so that the asset creation and sustainable livelihood is ensured.
He instructed concerned departments especially PHE, R&B, RDD, I&FC, Horticulture, Forests, Animal husbandry and Education to work for creation of durable assets in close co-ordination with each other. He said that mainly soil & water conservation, afforestation, land reclamation, land leveling, vermin-composting, fish pond establishment, school play grounds and cattle sheds can be prioritized under MGNREGA convergence programme. He also emphasized on the need that separate budget component can be kept in I&FC sector for supporting 40% material component of MGNREGA which can include mesh-wire and other concrete construction related items.
