ANANTNAG: Deputy Commissioner Anantnag Muneer-ul-Islam led the district in observing 8th annual Global hand-washing day in the district from Maternity and Child Care Hospital, Sherbagh, Anantnag.
Additional Deputy Commissioner, Assistant Commissioner Revenue, ACD, Joint Director planning, CEO, Principals of various Degree Colleges and Higher secondary schools, Doctors and paramedical staff, ZEOs, BDOs and Tehsildars besides students, Panches, Sarpanches and civil society members participated in the event.
Deputy Commissioner urged upon all concerned to observe the practice of washing hands in order to prevent spread of diseases and infections through unclean hands.
He said that this event will increase awareness regarding developing the practice of washing hands with soap and develop this habit as an effective and cheap way to prevent diseases which ultimately will yield better child survival and healthcare. He revealed that hand-washing with soap can reduce incidence of diarrhea especially among infants.
He asked doctors and paramedics to make their patients aware about the benefits of observing the said practice, especially pregnant and lactating women, which can help reduce incidence of respiratory infection by 21%.
He urged for adequate efforts to attain desired social behavioral change with adoption of hand-washing practices to bring about qualitative change in life, particularly in rural areas by way of maintaining cleanliness.
Deputy Commissioner also impressed upon concerned departments and agencies to motivate and mobilize the masses for said cause.
