VC accused for favouring blue-eyed; accountability shattered: Employees
SRINAGAR: Accusations of favouritism and nepotism in promoting professors and engagement of staff on similar grounds have plagued Kashmir University for quite some time but it was during his recent meeting with the representatives of Kashmir University Teachers Association (KUTA) and Jammu University Teachers Association (JUTA) that the Chancellor expressed his displeasure over the state of affairs in the highest seat of learning.
The teaching faculty and the top administrative officials have been alleging that incumbent Vice Chancellor Professor Khurshid Andrabi has been promoting nears and dears and recently after removing Director Physical Education Bashir Ahmed Khan, he asked his close friend Nisar Ahmed Rather to take the charge of the Department.
This is not the only case. The VC without any prior notice or advertisement appointed another close friend Musadiq Amin Sahaf as Registrar University, said a Professor on condition of anonymity.
The faculty members of various departments said that no action has been initiated against two top officials of the Administrative Department who engaged rather promoted their relatives in the University. After feeling pressure from different quarters, the VC constituted a committee to probe the matter and Professor Khurshid Ahmed Bhat, Dean Faculty of Commerce and Management Studies was asked to head the committee and present his report in stipulated time, but no report was submit, said a Professor.
They said that due to chaos and confusion in the University not a single order is being implemented while the irony is that certain members from teaching and non-teaching staff are defying the orders sent from the top level. Recently a Computer Engineer left the Varsity and joined Central University after he witnessed favouritism and nepotism galore at the Varsity, said an employee.
The employees said that if Varsity authorities failed to put an end to practice of nepotism and favourtism, they will approach court of law. They even alleged that construction works inside the Varsity were allotted without following proper procedure. While detailing the difficult phase the University is going through, the employees said that there is no accountability. They suggested that the only way out of the morass is that Governor of the state who is also the Chancellor of the University should appoint a special committee to probe what is going on in the University on ground level.
Efforts to reach Vice Chancellor Professor Khurshid Andrabi did not materialise as he was busy in a series of meetings.
