CJ is not apprehending law and order problem
SRINAGAR: Supreme Court Wednesday dismissed a plea to hear the petitions on controversial Dogra-era cow slaughter ban law in Jammu and Kashmir at Jammu High Court.
A bench of Chief Justice HL Dattu and Justice Arun Mishra said that they had talked to the learned Chief Justice of Jammu and Kashmir N P Vasanthkumar and he is not expecting any problem whatsoever (in Srinagar).”
The plea was filed by Parimoksh Seth seeking hearing of the petitions in Jammu High Court.
Seth, who was sacked as deputy Advocate General by the PDP-BJP government for filing the PIL in Jammu High court for imposing beef ban in the state, had cited that there could be law and order problems if the petition was heard in the Srinagar High Court
However, the bench dismissed his plea.
The beef ban row has snowballed into a major controversy in the state and has polarised Jammu and Kashmir regions, following two conflicting orders by two wings of the High Court in Jammu and Srinagar, beef party hosted by Independent legislator Er Rahsid and petrol-bomb attack on two Kashmiri truckers in Udhampur last week.
Subsequently, the government pleaded the case in Supreme Court which suspended the two decisions of the High Courts for two months and directed the High Court here to form a three judges bench to decide the petitions.
