Srinagar: In an incident that is almost typical in Kashmir and reflects the apathy and indifference of authorities, an oil spill on the Boulevard near Ghat number 1 led to a number of scooterists and motor cyclists tipping over and falling on the road. Fortunately, there were no serious injuries. This is because soon after the two wheeler riders started tipping over and falling, locals swung into action and splattered and sprinkled the affected portions of the road with saw dust. Lives were saved by the action , attention , alertness and civic sense of the local residents. Pertinent to mention here is that Boulevard and the area near Ghat number 1 is a high frequency road which leads to the Dalgate intersection; a high volume of traffic passes through this stretch every day. It is due to the civic and sense of public duty of the local residents that lives were saved. The authorities were caught napping.
